Mobility

mobility

Mobility is becoming increasingly important for training delivery. Cisco forecasts that mobile data traffic will grow 10 fold between 2014 and 2019, with data on tablet devices increasing at more than twice that rate. There's little doubt that virtually all business users will be demanding the capability to perform all critical functions on mobile devices over the next year or so. Learning is particularly relevant, because it opens the opportunity for people to undertake courses at a time and place that suits them, often away from the workplace.

iLearning PLUS supports your mobile workforce in one of three ways:
Dynamic detection of device OS enforcing mobile ready UI templates
Dedicated user experience (UX) using a dedicated, styled portal design based on a use case
Integration with existing mobile applications to track and report on user performance

Dynamic Device Detection

Mobile portaliLearning PLUS uses Browserhawk device detection technology to detect the operating system of the device gaining access. The UI templates and CSS are loaded based on the device and OS. For mobile access the site is optimised for touch screen access and simplified for ease of use.

This approach (shown right) enables the use of a single portal, single user account, the syndication of content and centralized administration across the portal. In effect, you are maintaining a single instance of your learning management system, but serving different formats based on the user's device.

Dedicated Mobile Portal

If you want to define a different use case scenarios, dependent on whether the user is accessing the content via a mobile device or computer, then a separate portal can be constructed for each.

With this option the mobile portal can be styled more flexibly, to align with your specific UX requirements. This can include everything from layout and iconography, through to user workflow.

Whilst the content and reporting will remain centralised, this approach does require the maintenance of seperate portals, each with their own URL.

Mobile App Integration

If you'd prefer to build an app for your users on mobile devices, it can call on the iLearning PLUS SOAP-based web services layer to launch content.

This third party app can access user information and content (courseware) from the LMS, passing data back to score and report on progress and performance.

This is a flexible approach but it requires bespoke application development and demands that the user has internet access at all times.

iLearning PLUS supports HTML5, jQuery libraries and other emerging technologies. Whilst users currently need to be connected to the internet to access content future releases of iLearning PLUS will incorproate an 'offline-play' capability, so courses can be completed with the results uploaded when connected.
